Black People Meet is a large and active black singles community. Black People Meet is designed for dating, pen pals and to bring black singles together.

Launched in 2002 by People Media, it has become the site to go to for African-Americans looking for friends, casual dates, long-term relationships and marriage. Although the site is targeted towards black people, anyone can join the website regardless of ethnicity.

The signup process is made up of 5 screens, with the last screen being an advertisement for premium membership. The only personal information you need to divulge is your birthday and zipcode, making it perfect for people who value their privacy. The website doesn’t prolong the signup process, allowing users to immediately start using the website, instead of being stuck between screens of endless questions.

Main features

Users can play a game on the site called I’m Interested. The game is similar to the swipe left and right game played on mobile dating apps. You see a picture of the potential match on your screen, together with basic information such as location, age and last online activity. Another game named Who Do You Like? has users comparing pictures of two different members. You can choose which of the two matches you’re interested in. If you’re not interested in either of them, you can skip the set.

While there are several ways to contact other members on the website, these are available only for paid members. This might feel limiting to free users, but once you’re a paid member, there are a lot of features that you can enjoy. Aside from the basic chat and flirt options, the ConnectMe feature allows you to call other members without revealing your phone number.

Pricing (February 2019)

Subscription is cheaper than many other dating sites, although pricing is somewhat deceptively presented — the rates listed describe the weekly cost, rather than the standard monthly cost. The three subscription options are $66 U.S. for six months ($11/month), $39 for three months ($13/month), or $17 for one month. All are billed as one-time lump payments.

The subscription also automatically renews itself when it runs out, so anyone who has abandoned the site will have to go back in and deliberately opt out rather than letting the fixed term expire.
